Socialist squirm. The church has been dealing with that as long as I can remember. At a retreat I attended when I was 13 (about '65), we were exposed to very subtly-packaged "liberating theology." Even sang Kumbaya toward the end of the three- or four-day event. Wasn't inescapable what was going on then but was somewhat creeped out by it. That was in central IL, during the mid 60s, if you can believe that.

Fortunately, as I grew up, I became a niggardly, capitalist, YUPPIE-scum pig and everything has worked out much better than it might have had I allowed myself to be sucked in by that B.S.

The church operates like a bosom buddy government–whatever it takes to keeps its plantation growing almost certainly dupes whatever the statist plantation does to fulfil the same end. While the faith, IMO, was a good one to be taught, it will always be vulnerable to those willing to distort it. Where there are two competing gods, can't require much good to come of it–especially when they are both jealous of one another.
