A Bexar County workings that tracks the number of sexual assault victims shows about twice as many reported rapes in 2008 as figures the FBI released recently for the region.

Officials with the Rape Crisis Center said the community isn't getting an conscientious accounting of sexual assaults if only the FBI's Uniform Crime Report is acclimatized. Currently, UCR is the only way for the federal government to track nationwide crime trends at a neighbourhood level.

Among the key concerns is that the UCR definition for forcible rape - the carnal expertise of a female forcibly and against her will - was created in 1929 and adopted in 1930. Sacrificial lamb advocates say the 80-year-old description fails to give an accurate accounting of genital assault. Also, the information is submitted voluntarily by law enforcement agencies with paltry oversight.

In 2008, the crisis center reported 1,024 sensuous assaults that required a medical forensic exam, or rape kit, while the San Antonio Guard Department reported 424 cases that met the UCR rape definition. The Bexar County Sheriff's Workplace reported 90 such cases.
