One of the haziness's first lines of dialogue is a voice-over of a man saying: "I find you disgusting, I find you inconsolable," while the camera is trained on Brandon, faintly unnerved. It turns out to be his boss discussing advertising and cynical attitudes, though it's never explicit what Brandon does for a living. What matters is that he's good at it, though he finds scarcely meaning in his professional life. His nighttime prowls through the city and access to online porn are the pith of his existence.
Brandon is a fascinating contradiction. Drawn to the seamiest aspects of charitable interaction, he lives in a sleekly furnished apartment, dresses with grace and listens to Bach's Goldberg Variations.
But just who is Brandon completely? And why is he the way he is?
Those questions remain unanswered. We do know he's keenly observant of female attributes and has heartfelt reserves of tenderness.
